The game was critically well-received and was praised for both its challenging difficulty and nostalgic homage to classic games of the genre. Tuniccan be tough for people, but the ability cards that can be unlocked by finding various items in the world can be equipped to alter the game in a way that feels authentic to each player’s wants and desires from the experience.

8 Bracers

Despite how useful bracers can be for heroes and warriors, they rarely get talked about in the same way other forms of armor and protection do. The truth of the matter is that they can often help in close combat and be the determining factor to success.

Tunic players looking to equip their fox adventurer with bracers of their own will need to explore the Ruined Atoll beach east of the Shrine. This Bracer ability card makes it so the act of blocking in the game takes a reduced amount of stamina from the player. People who never block, but rather enjoy the challenge of dodging will probably find little use for the Bracers, but for everyone else, they may be worth tracking down.

7 Tincture

A tincture is an uncommon word that most readers of the article may not know. It’s used to define a medicine that is crafted by dissolving a drug specifically into alcohol. In the Ruined Atoll, an ability card called Tincture can be discovered. Since it increases attack power at the cost of defensive capabilities it isn’t for the faint of heart.

Those who find themselves confident in combat, or simply want more of a challenge will find it rather useful. Those looking to simply get through Tunic might want to keep this on the shelf as opposed to equipping it as soon as possible.

6 Muffing Bell

No one would ever describe Tunic as a stealth experience, but the Muffling Bell ability card makes it much closer to that description for those who choose to equip it. The item itself makes it so enemies have decreased detection range, making it easier for the player to avoid confrontation and combat.

Behind the waterfall, under the Easter Vault is where the Muffling Bell resides. As with most games, it’s all about finding the experience one wants to have, and sure the Muffling Bell may not sound exciting, but for some people, it adds a level of stealth that dynamically increases the entertainment factor of Tunic for themselves personally.

5 Perfume

Now, anyone looking to find a significant other will die on the hill that cologne and perfume are critical in the process. When it comes to adventuring a mysterious land they may feel otherwise.

Players who happen to come across the Perfume found in the Swamp which can be accessed via a ladder in the southeast part of the skull area will find themselves in possession of a solid ability card. It specifically increases the rate at which the player recovers stamina, a resource needed to attack and move at a brisk pace.

4 Anklet

An anklet isn’t necessarily an item known to aid warriors in battle, but the ones that can be found in Tunic paint a different picture. Located behind Hero’s Grave, in the Forest Fortress, are a pair of anklets that offer a neat power.

Anyone who wears them is gifted with increased movement speed, which is critical in a game like Tunic known for slower methodical combat. These anklets allow the player to be craftier in their combat positioning, but can also help them get out of trouble when they accidentally find themselves surrounded by numerous enemies looking to take them out.

3 Cyan Peril Ring

Those venturing by the location known as Hero’s Grave might happen to come across an item known as the Cyan Peril Ring. A ring at first may not sound all that useful in a world of beasts and skeletons, but this ring, in particular, happens to carry with it a rather useful ability. When equipped it’ll increase the defensive capabilities of the wearer specifically when their health is low.

In the open world, players might not find themselves at low health all that often, but boss fights are where the Cyan Peril Ring shows its usefulness. In the heat of battle, a boss might become susceptible to more damage as they witness the player’s health deteriorating, but little do they know it’s only making their target more formidable.

2 The Bone

The Bone is a rather ominous name that may suggest this ability card negatively affects the player, but that’s not the case. What The Bone does is actually increase the effectiveness of the dodge mechanic. Whenever the player dodges there’s a moment of invincibility that protects them from taking damage.

Equipping The Bone automatically doubles the time of this effect, astronomically increasing the value of effective dodges. It’s a rather hidden ability card that will need the player to bomb a wall next to the rock that protects the Tincture item in the Ruined Atoll.

1 Lucky Cup

In the world of video games, health is often key to success, and with Tunic it’s no different. Sustaining health and replenishing it serves as a mini-game of sorts in Tunic as managing that resource can become quite the task. Thankfully, there’s an ability card that can come in clutch and really alleviate pressure.

The Lucky Cup, located in the bottom left section of the Overworld, makes it so any and all enemies have a 15 percent chance to drop hearts. It may not sound like a lot, but it’ll come in handy much more often than one assumes and can aid in extended exploration and battles of attrition.

Tunic is available now for PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
