The Siege Engine is one of the most frustrating enemies in Tunic because of its speed, long reach, and ranged attacks. Players must constantly be on the move to avoid being hit by all its aggressive moves. With several offensive strategies, it will keep players on their toes, continuously thinking about their next move. However, this fiery, spider-like nemesis will be no match for players once they get some solid tips on how to take it down.
The Siege Engine Basics
Players must be careful when battling the Siege Engine, as it has multiple phases of attack that depend on their proximity to it. It will use a lunging swipe that players can roll away from. This move is identifiable by the enemy rearing back before lunging forward with its sword. Alternatively, it may use a front leg to perform a swipe or stomp. The player can run out of the way or use their shield to block the damage. The other three attacks are bombs, a laser, and a turret.

In addition to its main five attacks, the Siege Engine will also periodically pause mid-battle to unleash Faeries that will attack the hero from above. As long as players have the Wand, they won’t be a problem. They also will provide access to magic drops to restore players’ MP when defeated. This way, if players are running low on magic, they can be reasonably well assured that, at some point, they will get some refilled during battle.
The Siege Engine has two weak spots for players to take advantage of: its face and core. However, attacking the core deals more damage than attacking the face. Players will need to be speedy to stay underneath it safely. Using the Magic Dagger will work to hold it in place for a good thrashing with the sword.
How To Beat The Siege Engine
Bringing a significant number of disposable dynamite to this battle will be worth it in the end. Players can verify what they have that’s disposable, meaning will regenerate when they die or return to a shrine, by looking in the menu at the number next to the plus sign by the dynamite. Aiming at the Siege Engine’s head, they can throw each disposable dynamite at it. This is an excellent way to start off the battle as players can whittle off a good chunk of the enemy’s HP before it gets too far in.

The most opportune time to reach the core weak spot is when the Siege Engine attacks with either form of its laser beam. Players will need to run away from the attack, dodging around to the backside of the enemy, where the weak spot will be accessible. They can also make their way back here when it is distracted. Whenever the opportunity presents itself, it is best to get in as many hits as possible to decrease the enemy’s health as quickly as possible.
While players are behind the Siege Engine, it will constantly be trying to turn around. Because of this, players must never stop moving. For the most part, they can move along with the spider, remaining behind it until it jumps backward. At this point, players will then have to contend with its ranged attacks.
When the Siege Engine employs missiles and lasers, players can also avoid getting hit by using the environment. There is a lot of space and plenty of things to hide behind, including stones and broken pillars. They simply need to hide for the duration of the attack and then rush the enemy to gain the upper hand once again.
When it uses its flame attack, the flames will follow the player. However, they are easily avoided by running or rolling away from them as they stop next to the player. When they make their escape, players will often find they have the perfect opportunity to wage another attack on the backside of the boss.
Players can also use bombs in the last phase of the fight, helping to ensure their victory. Again, making sure they’re disposable, they’ll need to aim for the Siege Engine’s head. Doing this will help guarantee it does not take the upper hand in the battle and defeat the players in the home stretch.
